TechnologiesThe many different types of detector sound an alarm in the presence of abnormal levels of gas or other anomalies. Some signal the danger only through a central control panel, while autonomous units sound a loud, integrated alarm.
In general, they have an independent battery power source to ensure reliable operation even if the vessel's electrical system fails. The warning can be an audible alarm, a visual alert (e.g., on a screen) or a message sent via SMS or email.
Choice will depend on the range of potential dangers aboard. Some detectors are multi-function. Those connected to a surveillance center with messaging generally require a paid SIM-card registration. Installation instructions should be followed to the letter to avoid a false sense of security.
