Your suggestions for improvement:
A through-deck block is designed to be let into a dedicated recess in mast or deck so that lines can run within without protruding.
ApplicationsSuch blocks can be used to run halyards or topping lifts within the mast or sheets, roller furling and other lines invisibly beneath the deck.
TechnologiesAs with other types, these blocks can be simple friction blocks or use ball or roller bearings. Roller bearings offer the best results, but are also more expensive. Most are made of stainless steel or aluminum. High-tech, titanium models, the most expensive, also provide the best strength/weight ratio.
Each model is designed for a specific line diameter, and maximum working and breaking loads, which must be respected. Through-deck blocks can have one or two sheaves, either in line or side-by-side.
Choice will depend on line diameter and maximum anticipated load. Double-sheave versions require only one aperture for two lines. Block type, friction, ball or roller bearing, will depend on budget and load requirements.
