ApplicationsHoods are worn with wetsuits that do not have them built in. Models with bibs cover parts of the clavicles, back and chest, offering enhanced thermal protection. They are particularly useful when diving in cold water or in rough conditions near rocks or coral.
TechnologiesDive hoods are made of neoprene, sometimes reinforced with titanium. Certain models cover just the head, while most cover head and neck. Those with a bib extend over the shoulder blades, back and chest. The opening leaves eyes, nose and mouth free. Thickness, ranging from 1.5 to seven millimeters, determines thermal insulation. Dry models prevent any water entry. Non-zippered versions are more watertight.
