ApplicationsSuch lights are essential for nighttime and deep diving. They also are used by video and still photographers, by archaeologists and others performing underwater work. They are sometimes used as underwater reference beacons.
TechnologiesThese devices can take the form of flashlights or spotlights. The case is made of aluminum or sturdy plastic, and bulbs can be LED, krypton, halogen or another type. Dive lights are usually powered by high-performance batteries. Head and shoulder mounts allow for hands-free operation. The entire assembly must remain watertight under high pressure at depth.
How to chooseThe maximum working depth of the light must not be exceeded to avoid permanent damage. Smaller, less powerful batteries may be used with energy-efficient LED bulbs, resulting in a more compact light.
