Your suggestions for improvement:
An MOB (man overboard) boat is a light, powerful craft designed to rescue a sailor gone overboard or aid a vessel in distress or any other shipwreck victim. It can operate from a shore station or be stowed on davits aboard ship.
ApplicationsSuch boats are generally mandatory aboard ships subject to SOLAS regulations. They are also used by coast guard and rescue stations in many countries. In addition to lifesaving, these craft can serve as dive boats, assist in ship maneuvers, hull inspection and repair, and perform many other tasks.
TechnologiesMost MOB boats have powerful engines and are extremely sturdy. They are designed for rapid response in any sea and weather conditions. Reliability is paramount since mechanical failure or other problems at sea could jeopardize a rescue operation. Some have hydrojet propulsion to avoid accidental propeller injury to a victim in the water.
There are both rigid and rigid inflatable models, some with a deck or a wheelhouse. Most are orange, making them easier to spot in heavy seas. Some are designed to be mounted on ships davits for easy, rapid launching.
Classification agencies and regulations specify the number and type of MOB craft for each ship according to its category and use.
