TechnologiesCertain ships doors must comply with extremely strict watertightness and fire-resistance standards. Class A and Class B fire doors are distinguished by their constituent materials. For example, a stainless steel A-60 door withstands exposure to fire for 60 minutes. Doors can be hinged, sliding or activated by hydraulic cylinders.
Models serving purely practical purposes are designed without concern for aesthetics. In contrast, ocean liner cabin doors are often elegant, and may operate via a smart card, just like a hotel door. Some ships doors are glazed.
