TechnologiesA spreader consists of extremely rigid steel bars with a rectangular section. There is a locking mechanism to ensure safe transport of the containers. Maximum load capacity varies, and there are models for all standard container dimensions. Telescopic versions can handle containers of different sizes.
An ingenious system called twistlock enables a semi-automatic spreader to take hold of a container as it is lowered onto it. It can be locked manually when the container configuration does not allow such a maneuver.
Choice will depend on whether the spreader is used with a crane, forklift, gantry crane or another system. The type, dimensions and weight of containers to be handled also must be considered.
