Awarded a $1.8bn contract by TOTAL to provide an FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel) for a development in West Africa, Korean giant Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) turned to Alnmaritec to provide the workboat required on the vessel. The result is ALN 144 - ‘FPSO CLOV’ – a beast of a small boat which will be required to undertake duties such as inspection and maintenance of the Oil Loading Terminal, handling of hoses during tanker mooring operations and maintenance of lights, buoys and markers within the entire field. With such a demanding role it was essential to ensure that she was very robustly built to cope with the rigours of offshore operations and fitted with a powerful engine coupled to a ducted propeller to give her excellent bollard pull and triple rudder assembly to ensure excellent manoeuvrability. She is also fitted with a sophisticated gas detection system and ATEX protection for her electrical components to allow her to operate safely in hazardous conditions.
