SHIPS MOVEMENT INFORMATION DISPLAY SYSTEM
FOR ACCURATE AND SAFE NAVIGATION
The AMI Marine SMIDS is a highly dependable and cost effective alternative to the doppler docking systems. ‘SMIDS’ uses the data received from GPS and GLONASS satellite to accurately measure the vessel’s movement relative to the ground.
Why do you need a SMIDS?
The AMI SMIDS system support masters and pilots in navigating or manoeuvring in strong winds or currents. Great skill and accuracy are required when steering vessels and reliable and accurate data on ship movement is therefore essential to maximise safety. SMIDS can reduce the risk of structural damage to ship and shore infrastructure whilst also minimising the threat of accidental pollution.
Accurate to 0.01knots
Highly sensitive, SMIDS will detect and display vessel movement instantly, often before it is visibly apparent. Consequently, this ensures that vessel movement is precisely controlled which allows for corrective action to be taken at the earliest opportunity.
SMIDS is the perfect solution for large vessels but also for those where bridge visibility is restricted, lightering, dredging and for ships that frequently manoeuvre without tugs in adverse conditions.
Essential
The system is particularly valuable in difficult docking situations and in poor weather conditions where the doppler system would struggle to hold its accuracy. Doppler systems can be known to report inaccurate readings due to pitch and roll issues, sea state, cavitation, and seabed disturbance.
SMIDS is a first fit system for many new vessel build projects, in some of the most reputable shipyards around the world.
