Becker's SA and SC type Flap Rudders provide all the traditional advantages of the Becker Flap Rudder design:
Optimum balance and flap area
Minimum steering gear size
Highest insurance against flexural vibration, best values of natural vibration
Rudder angles of 45° and additional 45° of the flap, in special execution rudder angles of 65° and additional 45° flap angle may be applied
Easy maintenance of link and hinge system
Highest safety against cyclic stresses
Durable in ice
Heel-supported SA type Becker Flap Rudders are economic systems for small and low speed vessels. River boats, supply vessels, tugs, fishing boats and research vessels are all ideal candidates for this rudder solution. This design reduces loads on the neck bearing and the rudder carrier.
The SC type Becker Flap Rudder is a flap rudder without KSR support for smaller vessels, whose size do not require KSR support (e.g. smaller ferries, offshore vessels, etc.).
Due to the extreme efficiency of the flap rudders we always recommend having our experienced engineers on board for manoeuvring training during sea trials.
