As the first hybrid battery DC network DPII SOV for wind farm maintenance ever built with innovative and pioneer solutions onboard, Wind of Change will serve in the Borkum Riffgrund 1 & 2 and Gode Wind 1 & 2 wind farms off the coast of Germany for the biggest energy company in Denmark, Ørsted.
Wind of Change is one of the biggest SOV (Service Operation Vessel) in the Windmill Market. The SOV is equipped with one Heave Compensated Gangway system to provide continuous access to windmills for the technicians and is equipped with one 3D Crane for cargo/material handling between the vessel and windmills. This is the first time installing and testing of this type of crane.
The SOV is classed as DP-2 that is based on the 4-Split system. Moreover, the specially developed DP system configuration will be tested on this vessel for the first time. There are 2 batteries on board.
As a benefit of the batteries, the fuel consumption of the generators and the exhaust emissions have been significantly reduced, which means in addition to energy efficiency, the SOV is an eco-friendly vessel.
