Description

Overview
EnergyMatic is a propeller by EWOL that combines high-performance propulsion with integrated hydrogeneration (REGEN) to provide on‑board charging for sailboats, electric and hybrid vessels, and boats with shaft alternators. Unveiled in 2022, EnergyMatic received the ‘Best Green Product’ award.

Hydrogeneration (REGEN mode)
EnergyMatic can switch to a REGEN (Recharge) mode and operate as a hydraulic turbine: while sailing the rotating propeller drives the motor as a generator to recharge battery banks without a separate hydrogenerator. Indicative regeneration output for medium-to-small installations is approximately 0.6 kW to 1.8 kW at about 7 knots; actual charging depends on blade count, propeller diameter and motor/software parameters.

Automatic Feathering
The propeller features an automatic return mechanism that positions the blades in a feathered state parallel to the water flow without stopping or locking the shaft. This is especially advantageous for vessels with hydraulic transmissions or electric motors without a shaft brake. Reduced drag under sail can produce a speed gain of up to 1.5 knots.

Performance and adjustment
EnergyMatic maintains high propulsion performance and offers micrometric pitch adjustment to fine-tune the propeller to a specific engine and hull, improving cruising speed and maneuverability during docking.

Materials and durability
EnergyMatic is manufactured entirely from high-tech Super Duplex stainless steel superalloys with high chromium and nickel content, ensuring:
  • Maximum mechanical strength
  • Exceptional resistance to galvanic corrosion
  • Long-term reliability in harsh marine environments

Versions and suitability
  • Orion (3 blades): ideal for sailboats from 10 to 16 meters
  • Gemini and Pegasus (4 blades): designed for larger yachts requiring higher thrust and stability

Applications
  • Fully electric or hybrid propulsion vessels
  • Boats with conventional engines equipped with a shaft alternator
  • Owners and builders seeking increased on‑board energy autonomy and reduced fuel consumption through regeneration under sail
