Training sailors while at the same time allowing guests to participate and experience day-to-day life on board a ship – this is a concept which has been practised on Russian trainee sailing ships for a long time now.
And this idea was the driving force behind the development of the 48m luxury trainee ship “Hanse Explorer”. Its design is based on the 42m fishery research ship “Solea”, built by Fassmer in 2004. The “Solea” has a special hull shape, good sea-keeping characteristics, and a single-screw propulsion plant, and therefore made for a very good basic design for the “Hanse Explorer”. To provide more deck and interior space, its length was increased to 48m and its beam to 10.40m.
