The 58m state-of-the-art “Rainbow Warrior” is Greenpeace’s first purpose-built vessel, custom-designed and built from scratch with sustainability in mind.
Primarily a sailing vessel (using wind energy instead of fossil fuels), with the option to switch over to diesel-electric propulsion in unsuitable weather conditions, the third “Rainbow Warrior’s” power will be generated by 1,255 square meters of sails on a highly efficient 55m A-Frame mast system. The A-frame design of the mast and the positioning of the sails were carefully optimised for efficiency, and the hull shape was designed for maximum fuel economy.
