The water injection dredger (WID) “Steubenhöft” rids locks, outer port areas and berths of sand and silt sedimentation using state-of-the-art technology, thus ensuring the necessary depths in these places.
A WID’s operating principle is based on water injection, whereby a water jet is injected into the fairway bed through a flushing pipe fitted with nozzles. The result is a density current with an increased proportion of sediment. These bottom sediments, which are washed up off the river bed, are then transported to remote deposit areas by the ebb tide.
