The speed change takes place as on a traditional winch by changing the direction of rotation. The winch automatically returns to 1st gear when you release the tension. The KSW is more of a winch dedicated to sailors. When maneuvering, the difference is just incredible : the line is “swallowed” 6 times faster than a winch of a similar size. Many sailors have already adopted it and are gaining ground with each maneuver : sending of sails, gybes, tacking, … These manual winches are so quick that you no longer have to pick up slack in the line on the fly.
