Wood description: Also called violetwood, bois violet, guarabu, pau roxo, amaranth and amaranth. Purpleheart is a hard South American hardwood. It is bright purple when freshly planed. It is mainly used for furniture but its great durability makes it also very suitable for untreated outdoor work. The characteristic purple colour disappears under the influence of light. It turns dark brown over time.
