Description

Wood description: Also called Sucupira Preta, Couer Dehors, Tatabu, Peonia and Alcornoque. Dark, hard wood from South-America. Sucupira looks a bit like Wenge, but is a bit lighter of colour. Originally this type of wood came from Surinam to the Netherlands and was called Black Kabbes. In the 50s and 60s, it was used for furniture, floors and, remarkably, in church interiors. However, it has become a little unused. Currently it is sparsely available on the market, especially from Brazil. Botanical name: Diplotropis purpurea Growth area: South America
