Wood description: European maple. In general the wood shows a uniform structure. Due to a rather sharp bounding of the growth rings, there is usually a fine stripe pattern on the quartersawn surface and a modest flame pattern on the dorsal surface. The small mirrors on the quartersawn surface and the somewhat silky sheen are characteristic. Older trees may have a brownish core or dark brown streaks.
Botanical name: Alnus glutinosa.
Growth area: Europe
