Wood description: In general, the wood has an even structure. Due to a rather sharp bounding of the growth rings, there is usually a fine stripe design on the quartered surface and a modest flashing pattern on the flat surface. The small mirrors on the quartersawn surface and the somewhat silky sheen are characteristic. Older trees may have a brownish core or dark brown streaks.
Botanical name: Alcer Saccharum.
Growth area: Eastern Canada and north-eastern United States.
