Wood description: Beech has a regular and dense structure. The up to 4 mm high rays are usually clearly visible on the longitudinal surface. Steamed wood has advantages, like reduced internal tensions. Beech often has an irregularly shaped red heartwood. This discolouration does not affect the strength, but it does have a negative effect on the impregnability.
Botanical name: Fagus sylvatica.
Growth area: Europe. Beech species with similar characteristics can be found in Western Asia, Eastern North America and Japan.
