Heavy Weather Staysails are common on ocean cruising yachts often replacing a specialized Storm Jib. Usually a furling sail back from the forestay allowing the crew to stay back in the cockpit in heavy air conditions. All new storm sails are made from orange Dacron however boats over 60ft often require specialized cloth that is not available in storm orange. These sails along with older sails can be painted storm orange to meet safety category regulations.
