LONG LINE & MULTIDAY NM-28 FISHING BOAT MK1
DESIGNED FOR BOTTOM & DROP LINE, GILL NET FISHING COASTAL FISHING
The Neil Marine NM 28 pioneered the use of GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) fishing-boat construction in Sri Lanka.
Based on a tried-and-tested wooden hull design produced in Britain for small-scale coastal fishermen, it was a game-changer for drift-net fishing, which was the mainstay of Sri Lanka's domestic fishing industry.
The reputation of the boat was further enhanced when it was adopted by the United Nations for a major project to create a modern fishing fleet in Somalia, which resulted in 500 boats being made and delivered.
