Making an early entry tothe offshore plant market with FLNG
FLNG (Floating LNG) is an offshore plant facility that drills, refines, liquefies, stores, and offloads LNG. Developing a gas field using FLNG is both environmentally friendly and economical, as there is no need to install undersea pipes or liquefaction facilities on land, which typically cost up to 2 trillion won.
In 2009, Samsung Heavy Industries signed a contract with Royal Dutch Shell for the long-term supply of FLNGs. In 2011, Samsung Heavy Industries secured an order for Prelude FLNG and launched it successfully in November 2013. The 3-trillion-won ship is the world’s first and largest floating facility.
