TLP/Semi-Submersible/SPAR
A rich set of technologies developed through the production of high value-added offshore structures
A floating offshore vessel is used for drilling oil wells and producing oil in the deep sea and its significance is growing with the increased need for deep-sea oil development.
Samsung Heavy Industries built West Phoenix and West Eminence, the 30,000-ton semi-submersible drilling rigs using its own technology and successfully delivered them to their owner, Seadrill, in 2008 and 2009 respectively. West Phoenix, in particular, signaled the start of SHI’s offshore EPC business, as the company handled the entire EPC process from Engineering to Procurement and to Construction.
In July 2010, SHI became the first Korean shipbuilder to successfully integrate the topside and the hull of Gazflot’s semi-submersible drilling rig at the offshore site. This achievement was recognized as a major advancement in Korean offshore plant building technology.
