Short-handed cruising. Single-handed adventures. The Spirit 44 was designed to meet rising demand from owners looking for an elegant yacht, which is simple to sail and offers the option for comfortable overnight stays. Her looks showcase classical beauty, her heart is wedded to sustainable sailing.
Electric drive complemented by solar panels subtly integrated into the flush decks deliver enough power for responsibly-managed cruising. Due to her size, light displacement and easy handling, the Spirit 44 has house loads that can run solely on electric power generated by hydro propulsion and solar energy (or shore power). A generator can be added to extend range if preferred.
As a Spirit Cruise design, the Spirit 44 has added beam and headroom compared to the sleeker Spirit racing yachts. This extra volume creates a wider cockpit and a more spacious interior for cruising, entertaining, and live-aboard comfort. As an electric drive yacht, the Spirit 44 can still have all the expected guest comforts such as air-conditioning, heating, induction hob oven, electric winches, and a variety of optional extras.
The first Spirit 44 is regularly cruised for weeks at a time in British Colombia. She is solely electric drive, with solar panels in her deck and mainsail. She has zero hydrocarbons onboard. Speaking of his Canadian adventures the owner commented, “I have run out of food before I have run out of battery capacity.”
The second Spirit 44 also has no back-up generator. Based in Mexico, she is primarily used as a day sailer and for short cruising trips with friends and family.
