Description

Teignbridge standard tapered couplings can be supplied to fit the output flange of any gearbox. Precision machined, they provide the best fit possible between coupling and shaft. They are precision machined, to close tolerances, to ensure concentricity and squareness of flange. If supplied with shafting, coupling tapers are bedded to shafts at the factory to achieve a fit, using engineers blue, of 70% minimum. The fit of keys and keyways will also be inspected. When a coupling is supplied on its own, the fit to the shaft will need to be checked on site. The taper of the coupling, or shaft, should be scraped to produce a fit of 70% minimum. The key should be inspected for a correct fit in both coupling and shaft. Teignbridge tapered couplings are manufactured from either malleable S.G. iron or mild steel BS970.220M07 and 070M20. It is recommended that the coupling is either painted or smeared with grease after installation. Clamp type shaft couplings can be supplied to fit the output flange of any gearbox. The advantage of using this type of shaft coupling is that the shaft length can be adjusted at the installation stage, giving the boat builder flexibility to make slight changes to the engine and propeller position. Teignbridge have supplied clamp type couplings for installations in excess of 400bhp.
