Description

To get the boat moving, energy is needed. For electric propulsion instead of a tank, filters, hoses, etc, a battery bank with a nominal voltage of 48VDC is required. VETUS offers a selection of AGM deep-cycle and lithium batteries (on request only) for electric propulsion solutions. To calculate the correct battery pack for your boat, the following data is important: A. Desired usage and vessel specifications, such as boat length and average boating speed. This data will be used to calculate the average required consumption input power in kW per hour. For a combustion engine, this would be the fuel consumption ratio of the boat. Note that the designated hull speed, designated cruising speed and the boat’s actual usage are significant values here. A calculation based on a standard-displacement 6m (1.1 ton) boat produces the following indicative data: Energy consumption: 0.7kW at 6km/h (3.3 knots) Energy consumption: 2.1kW at 8.8km/h (4.7 knots) Energy consumption: 4.1kW at 11km/h (5.9 knots) Slightly reducing average speeds exponentially increases the available boating range due to the hull design’s water displacement.
