The trinquet is a secondary mast that is sometimes found at the front of lateen-rigged sailboats. It supports a sail smaller than the mainsail, called a “staysail.” It is often used to balance the sail and help maneuver the vessel, particularly when sailing upwind or in variable wind conditions.
