Stiffer, lighter, safer, better vibration damping while being cost efficient and decreasing the eco footprint – a seemingly impossible equation. Swiss high-tech firm Bcomp thinks otherwise. Leading in the area, its solutions are found from sports to space, from sea to summit.

In 2017, Bcomp partnered with Tesla-based Electric GT Championship to produce body parts for lightweighting. By using Bcomp’s proprietary powerRibs®reinforcement and ampliTex® technological fabrics for body parts, weight is reduced by up to 40 per cent with maintained stiffness and improved vibration damping. (Alternatively, stiffness can be significantly increased at maintained weight.)

Compared to carbon fibres, it also removes the dangerous shattering in a crash scenario, cuts costs and reduces the environmental impact. Still, the partnership is about more than that: it is about pushing the boundaries of technology. The Electric GT car roof features fully integrated LED screen, made possible thanks to the novel characteristics of Bcomp’s materials. This adds a whole new dimension to the Electric GT Championship, to its audience and sponsors.

Bcomp develops and produces highly engineered solutions for lightweighting within extreme sports, motorsports and automotive. Based on European flax fibres, Bcomp’s materials replace or reinforce carbon fibre, glass fibre and aluminium.

The high performance to weight ratio has led to a partnership with the European Space Agency(ESA), projects with many of the leading car manufacturers and in commercial air transportation.
