Due to its unique frame construction and highly efficient catamaran hulls our concept of an energy self-sufficient solar-driven houseboat can be implemented in many ways.

The necessary electric energy is mainly produced by solar panels

The integrated sewage system for black water (toilet waste water) makes you independent of the disposal facilities in the harbours.

Feel the spirit of life

The technical achievements of our houseboat INDIE are a flagship for sustainably ecological life on the water. Regardless of whether you use the life-on-ship as a mobile home or as a charter boat. As a skipper, you have an almost endless amount of possibilities to plan your route. It is not problematic if there are no harbors with charging stations and disposal facilities on your way as you will be nearly independent. You will only need an inland sports boat driver’s license.

Chartering made easy

For safety reasons, the energy regulation on a charter boat can only be carried out automatically. Loading the batteries manually for instance is absolutely impossible. Thanks to this safe and comfortable handling charter customers can enjoy their holidays completely light-hearted.

Details of the houseboat INDIE:

Certified according to design category D

CE certificate for 4 + 2 + 29 people: 4 permanent beds for long-distance trips, 2 variable beds in the salon. Additionally, up to 29 people may stay on the ship, particularly on the upper deck to celebrate unforgettable parties or events on the boat.

A total of 35 people can stay aboard: The hydro stability was calculated for a maximum number of people based on the assumption that 20 – 35 people would take part in charter events or deck parties. In this case, one seat for each person must be provided whereas folding chairs would also be sufficient. This means that a total number of 6 + 29 people can be aboard, also while driving.

The houseboat INDIE is classified as a sport boat: The driver only needs to be in possession of an inland sports boat driver’s license.

Ahoy! Would you like to experience how relaxing a day on the water can start? Imagine that you are standing on the bow terrace of your houseboat, the morning fog reflects magical shapes on the glittering, softly moving water surface in front of you. The first sunbeams paint golden lines on the moss green water and a cup of coffee warms your hands. In the reed aside you a Bittern is singing and beneath your feet fish are passing by. Your houseboat INDIE is absolutely quiet because the solar panels or the fuel cell are loading the batteries without any noise and without any emissions that harm nature.

We are closely associated with nature. Therefore, our houseboat integrates into its environment without disturbing it. No operating noises do neither chase away the fauna which you would like to observe, nor do they leave behind any remains that could harm the flora.

Upon the construction of INDIE we were guided by our wish to create something absolutely new. Something that contributes to maintain the beauty of the world for our children and grandchildren. We want our little grandson Sandor to enjoy the river and lake landscapes even at a high age just the way we are enjoying them today! So there had to be a solution: A possibility that allows driving across Europe with a purely electric engine without refuelling every second day. This requires a large surface of solar panels in order to generate enough energy from the sunlight for the engine and for a comfortable life aboard.

Combining the amenities mentioned before, the idea of the solar railing© was born. With these solar panels the upper deck can be used for energy gaining at any time – be it electric energy for the ship or energy for your soul. In addition, a little space at the bow could be covered with solar thermal panels instead of photovoltaic panels in order to support the heating of tab water.

Be on the move 100% independently on the water

The reason that European nature is so beautifully green is the fact that we have sufficient rain. Unfortunately, rain also minimizes the effects of the solar panels which means that even for days without sun there must be a source of energy.

Therefore, our houseboat offers further innovative possibilities to generate energy:

While anchoring in flowing waters the ships propellers, driven by the running water, can be used to generate energy.

In addition, a water-rotor power station can be placed into the water from the middle of the stern.

Furthermore, there is a hydrogen fuel cell based on liquid methane on board. It can be used day and night for loading the batteries. The performance of the hydrogen fuel cell is sufficient to guarantee driving at any time even without sun.

Innovative water filter system for clean drinking water

Water is not only the medium on which we would like to move and live on, but it is also an indispensable elixir. In order to avoid constantly having to entre a port for refilling drinking water, we have found a system that turns any kind of water from rivers or lakes into drinking water in its purest form. So pure that it is meets the most fiercely food law in the world – the German Drinking Water Ordinance!

Certified by German authorities the facility even extracts heavy metals and further toxic substances from the water to guarantee you fresh and clean drinking water at any time. The facility may also be laid-up for brackish or salt water.

Sustainable disposal of waste water

What would all of our efforts be worth, if we could not dispose our waste water environmentally friendly ? For this reason, our boats are equipped with a ship sewage plant which is also certified by German authorities.

The boat’s own sewage plant clears waste water according to specific frame conditions. The cleaned water will be discharged off the boat as fresh water. To support this process, there are no typical marine toilets on our boats. Instead, you will find modern porcelain toilets with direct odour extraction and bidet function.
